While the following adage is one I hold true and close to my heart; I also believe that sometimes, one needs a break from even the most blissful of commitments.
Choose a Job You Love, and You Will Never Have To Work a Day in Your Life
That’s why after spending hours – albeit gratifying ones – on a work assignment, I decided that a break was long overdue. After a little more thought, it also occurred to me that some ‘indulgence’ was just as much needed at that point in time.
Upon “touring” the Asia Square plaza for a bit, I decided to pop by the Artisan Boulangerie Co (AKA abc) and check out their tea time delights. In less than a minute, my eyes were fixed on one particular dessert: the Hazelnut Crunch.
The initial outlook was tempting. As I gazed at it, I realised that it resembled a premium chocolate-coated ice cream bar. The condensation forming over the hazelnut-studded chocolate shell created a picturesque image, almost making it difficult to crack the outer layer. When you do however, your fork cuts through layers of soft, smooth mousse that have been infused with a firm hazelnut flavour. A few layers of soft sponge are what holds the entire thing together, and even though there’s more mousse than sponge, the cake doesn’t fall into a messy pile when you cut through it.
As I tasted a piece of this decadent treat, I could feel the outer chocolate shell melt away and giving my palate access to a smooth flow of delicious milk chocolate flavour. The hazelnut bits aren’t too tough so I guess there’s a degree of freshness to them. The sponge tasted of cocoa so I love that it isn’t the usual stale stuff you find in common bakeries, where although the sponge is brown in colour, it hardly tastes like cocoa.
It didn’t take long for me to get past the tasting process and straight into the eating part. Consuming this delicious bar of bliss was exactly the comfort and indulgence I was looking for, making my break time a whole lot more rewarding.
The ambience and decor of the place was very modern with a few rustic touches. The staff were friendly enough and all in all, it was a comfy spot for a tea time break. I’m sure meal times here are just as pleasant, even during the peak lunch hours.
Should You Try It?
Yes. Please start with the Hazelnut Crunch and then let me know which other cakes or treats are worth my calories.
